We are witnessing, and are a part of, history in the making. We have the privilege living through an era in history that will be discussed…documented…argued…portrayed…and ruminated about for generations to come! Unfortunately, however, those of us living through it are at a relative disadvantage in appreciating the broader significance and unique opportunity that currently presents itself. There is an extraordinary, and largely coincidental, level of grassroots activism and major shifts in public opinion related to some of the most basic social, political, economic and criminal justice assumptions our society has held onto for generations. At the risk of sounding overly zealous or trite…we now have an opportunity to push for some major changes in the “systems’ that operate in our society that have had a disproportionately negative impact on the poor and people of color that may not come again for another 100 years!
